SOUTH DAKOTA TRAPPERS ASSC.INC
YOUTH TRAPPING SCHOOL
SEPTEMBER 12, 2009
FLANDREAU CITY PARK, FLANDREAU, SD
A youth trapping school seminar will be taught by certified
members of the South Dakota Tappers Assc. Inc. The course is
open to all youth ages 9-18. We would recommend that any youth
with special needs be accompanied by an adult.
The youth trapping school is designed to help kids get a good
start learning the basics of furbearer trapping, and to have a
successful trapping experience. The one day seminar will allow
all kids the opportunity to learn basic trapping techniques
through hands on learning. The course will include the following
topics: our trapping heritage, furbearer identification and sign,
furbearer habits, traps, snares, trapping equipment, trapping set
locations, water and land trapping methods, and trapping safety.
Kids will learn practical methods for trapping weasel, mink,
muskrat, raccoon, beaver, fox, coyote and badger.
Registration begins at 9:00 am Saturday September 12, 2009. The
course will go from 9:30-11:00 am, and 1:00-4:00 pm. Snacks and
dinner will be available in the Japanese Gardens building. All
youth should dress appropriately for outdoor activities.
Each participant who successfully completes the seminar will be
given a certificate, a new trap, bottle of trapping lure or bait,
a National Trappers Assc. Trapping Handbook, trapping information
brochures, one issue of the Trapper & Predator Caller magazine
and one issue of the Fur-Fish-Game magazine.
All kids attending the rendezvous will have the opportunity to
win one or more of the Kids Trapping Supply Grub-Stake Raffles
late Saturday afternoon. Raffle tickets sell for $1.00 each or 6
for $5.00. The money generated from the raffles is used to fund
trapper education projects in South Dakota.
